There is one poor kingdom…

that may actually start out like a fairy tale. But it is not a fairy tale. This kingdom really exists. It is called Lesotho and is located in the southern part of the African continent. It is surrounded by South Africa, but from our point of view, it has little in common with South Africa. In many ways.

For example, it is characterized by being a poor mountainous country, and while South Africa is not in good shape either, it is much worse. Unemployment is high and the mountainous nature of the country means that, even excluding problems related to tourists, the problems here are excessive.

One of the problems awaiting our countrymen here is a coronavirus vaccination certificate or PCR test taken at least 3 days before travel, or, at most, an antigen test taken one day prior to travel, is still required to enter the country. Although coronavirus vaccination has now been discontinued in most of the world, it is still required in this country. And while all borders are open and curfews have been lifted, it is complicated. At least our citizens do not face quarantine.

Also, so far, masks must be worn in public places, some social events are restricted here, and social distances and hygiene, such as COVID-. 19 health and safety protocols must be followed.

This may not be the biggest problem yet. It may also lie in something else entirely, which Europeans usually do not understand and do not know much about. Namely, the fact that an international driver\’s license or passport is required for at least a quarter of a year\’s stay, but no one is quite sure what the visa requirements are. Our embassy should have information about this, but being located in Rome, Italy, it is difficult for our citizens to get information out of their homes.

According to this country\’s statement, travelers from our country do not need a visa and indeed do not, but it is not entirely clear how long such travelers can stay. It is also recommended that they print out Lesotho\’s note on visa-free travel and ask the immigration inspector at the border for more information. Non-tourists, however, need a visa. Also, as the fairy tale goes, it is always advisable to check with the embassy of your home country before traveling.

And other than that. Pretty good. You can get sunburned there and \’burned\’ if you take pictures of military and police facilities, but again, crime is not as high as in South Africa. Most importantly, they have to accept what comes from their poverty. And don\’t count too much on quality roads, adequate gas stations, or the quality and smooth functioning of Czech cell phone service.
