Croatia is one of the countries of the former Yugoslavia. The capital is Zagreb, which is also the largest city in Croatia. Croatia is a popular place to spend beautiful holidays. Especially Czech tourists come here to spend their vacations, many of them every year. One of the most popular and most visited places in Croatia is the Plitvice Lakes Complex, with 16 lakes and 140 waterfalls. The highest lake is Lake Plošćan, which rises 639 meters above sea level. The largest and deepest lake is Lake Kožak. Another popular tourist destination in Croatia is Krk, the largest island in the Adriatic. This island attracts tourists not only by its beautiful natural scenery, but also by its many historical monuments. Kornati National Park, located in the Kornati islands, was established in 1980. The park includes a total of 89 islands.
The port city of Dubrovnik is the most popular tourist destination. The city, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” is part of Croatia\’s cultural heritage. The first mention of the city dates back to 850. The town has towers such as Mincita and Bohar, and fortresses such as Revelin and Lovrijenac. There are also many churches and monasteries. Of special note is the historical museum in the palace of the prince, which was once the seat of government. The museum exhibits works by painters from the 15th to 19th centuries. One of the most beautiful buildings in Croatia is the Gothic Franciscan monastery. It too has a collection of paintings and a large library.
